Fort William, the largest town in the west highlands of Scotland and the self–styled outdoor capital of the United Kingdom, offers scenes of untamed natural beauty, and a variety of pleasant Bed and Breakfast establishments.
The area of Lochaber, for which Fort William is the commercial capital of, is a huge rural landscape covering more than 4,864 square kilometers of the Scottish West Highlands. It has a population of about 20,000, which expands several times over throughout the peak season as visitors come from all over the world to sample a taste of the ‘Highlands’. The annual UCI Mountain biking world cup, on its famous track just outside the town, also attracts hundreds each year.
The historic town of Fort William and Lochaber provide world-class scenery and an extensive range of outdoor activities to match, including scuba diving, sailing and canoeing, hang-gliding and flying, to name a few! Possibly Fort William’s greatest feature is the Magnificent Ben Nevis. Ben, as the locals fondly know it, is the highest Mountain in the UK and rises to 4,406ft (1,344m) dominating the landscape from all four corners of the town.
